Couples Counselling Leigh

Personal experiences

Alongside my professional training, my own life experiences have shaped the way I work. I’ve navigated relationship changes, including divorce and remarriage, and I’m now happily settled in Leigh with my husband and our small dog, who brings a sense of steadiness and simple joy to daily life. I have no children, having had a hysterectomy in my thirties due to ill health, and I’ve also been a step‑mum — experiences that have deepened my understanding of family dynamics, identity, loss, and the many forms that relationships can take.

Earlier in life I attended boarding school, which was a difficult and formative experience. Bullying, homesickness, and the emotional challenges of that environment affected my mental health and made it hard to thrive academically. Those early experiences have given me a deep, compassionate understanding of what it means to feel overwhelmed, unseen, or out of place — and of the resilience people draw on to get through painful times.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as an admin manager and later managed a counselling service, giving me a grounded understanding of the pressures people carry in work and everyday life. Like many people, I’ve experienced periods of anxiety and low mood, and these moments have strengthened my empathy and my belief in the possibility of change. All of these experiences help me meet clients with warmth, realism, and a genuine appreciation for the many ways people adapt, grow, and make meaning through their lives.
